If you did not hear about or attend the Gray Manor Community Yard Sale-You missed a great event!
All across the residential and business community was a very festive atmosphere. Neighbors getting to know each other better, sharing, laughing, and swapping stories. Meeting new friends that live in the neighborhood or surrounding communities-building stronger our sense of community in Gray Manor.
We could not have asked for a more perfect day-being sunny and in the low 70’s. If you are an avid yard-saler this would have been a fabulous opportunity to spend a day walking some beautiful tree-lined streets searching out those precious collectibles or just finding an awesome bargain!
The residents and businesses of Gray Manor supplied an abundance of great items for sale. Of the 100’s of people that visited our street, it seemed that everyone was able to find something that they were looking for or just couldn’t live without!
I listened to stories of items that used to be on the grandmothers wall or on Dad’s Desk. One man told me about a 1940’s ash tray sitting on my table that looked exactly like the ashtray that his grandfather had used for years on his front porch. You could see the tears well in his eyes as he talked of the stories he had listened to as a child while playing checkers with the man that helped him internalize his values as an adult.
Along with the residents, local businesses contributed to the bargains and festivities of the day as well. 7/11 at the corner of Trappe Rd & Old Northpoint had a HUGE (10ft screen) Guitar Hero III set up outside for all to enjoy. The popularity of this video game was evident with the long lines waiting for the opportunity to play. One of the major local radio stations-92Q-even got involved by doing a live remote from the parking lot next to Guitar Hero.
G & G Landscape and Aquatics had tables set up along Trappe Rd with some great deals on live plants, bird baths, fountains, and more. With the spring planting season upon us, this was a perfect opportunity to add to your lawn, landscape, or garden at a real savings. Being their third year in business at this location, they are quickly becoming an integral part of this community!
Drug City Pharmacy on Old Northpoint Rd has been an anchor in this community for generations. Their Annual Sidewalk sale has always been a big hit and coordinating it with the community yard sale this year, I believe, was a win-win for both them and the community. Crowds of people were lining the street scooping up the bargains from the tables!
I can’t leave this post without saying something about Papa Leone’s Pit Beef also. Being so busy with the yard sale I had a hard time breaking for lunch. My neighbor hustled down to Papa Leone’s, which had a Pit Beef Stand set up in the parking lot. We were able to get a great sandwich, chips and soda quickly even though there was a line for food most of the day!
I know there have to be many more stories from the day, as I was very limited to the distance I could get away from my own yard sale. If you have some stories or something you would like to share from the day feel free to share with your comments on this post.
Greg Vukov of the Gray Manor Community & Business Group is also looking for any pictures you may have that could be added to the Community web site. Feel free to add those pictures with your comments or email them to Greg for posting on the site.
Enjoy this short video of the day in Gray Manor and I look forward to your comments and pictures! Thanks to Greg Vukov for permission to use his pictures along with mine in the video.
